Manchester United captain Harry Maguire has hinted that striker Marcus Rashford was displeased with manager Erik ten Hag after missing out on a club record.
Rashford was hoping to extend his goal-scoring streak by netting in ten consecutive home matches in the FA Cup fourth-round tie against Reading. He thought he had achieved this feat when he scored a goal, but it was later ruled out by VAR.
Despite Manchester United securing a comfortable victory, Rashford was substituted mid-second half and did not get the record. Maguire stated that Rashford was likely annoyed by the substitution, but he agreed with the decision.
In an interview with the club media, Maguire said, “Yes, it was certainly a disappointment for Marcus. I think he really wanted that record, and then the manager substituted him, and I’m sure he wasn’t happy about that either.”
