Nottingham Forest will attempt to make a miraculous comeback when they face Manchester United in the second leg of the EFL Cup semi-final on Wednesday. Manchester United took control of the match after a 3-0 victory at the City Ground last week, putting them in a strong position to make it to the final, where they will face either Southampton or Newcastle United.

Despite losing two of their recent Premier League matches, Manchester United was able to score three goals in the first leg, all at crucial moments in the match, thanks to Marcus Rashford, Wout Weghorst, and Bruno Fernandes.

Manager Erik ten Hag, who has a history of winning trophies during his time at Ajax, is now just 180 minutes away from clinching Man United’s first silverware since 2017 and still has a chance at a domestic cup double. The Red Devils defeated Reading 3-1 in the FA Cup fourth round over the weekend, extending their scoring streak to 19 games in all competitions.

Nottingham Forest is attempting to do what has never been done before in the EFL Cup, overturning a three-goal deficit in the semi-final. Despite their defeat to Blackpool in the FA Cup third-round, Forest has had a full weekend to rest and prepare.

Although a semi-final exit would still be the best run in the EFL Cup for Forest in 31 years, they hope to take advantage of any complacency from Manchester United. However, Forest has lost eight consecutive matches against Man United, including a 3-0 loss in their last away match, and has not won at Old Trafford since the 1994-95 Premier League season.
