Real Madrid suffered a disappointing loss in LaLiga against Mallorca with a final score of 1-0. The loss was caused by an own goal from Nacho Fernández, breaking Real Madrid’s five-match unbeaten streak and marking the first time since May 2022 that they have lost and failed to score in the same game.

The tension leading up to the game was evident on the field, particularly with Vinícius Júnior who suffered 10 fouls throughout the game. Mallorca’s physical battle with the Brazilian resulted in a new high for fouls by a single team in a LaLiga match this season, with 29 fouls and four yellow cards. Vinícius, who attempted six dribbles, was also not immune to fouls, committing five himself and also receiving a yellow card.

Real Madrid struggled to score, registering only one shot with a higher xG value than their season average, and failing to get a single shot on target. Despite trying to break down the Mallorca defense with the addition of Mariano Díaz and Antonio Rüdiger, they could not succeed.

Marco Asensio also joined the list of players who have missed a penalty for Real Madrid this season, with their conversion rate at 63% in LaLiga. This was partly due to the diversity of penalty takers, with five different players taking the penalties this season, a number not seen since the 2010/11 season.
