Rodri began his youth career at Rayo Majadahonda before joining the academy of Atlético Madrid, one of Spain’s top football clubs. He made his senior debut for Atlético Madrid B in the 2015-2016 season, playing in the Segunda División B. Rodri’s impressive performances caught the attention of the first-team coaching staff, and he was soon promoted to the senior squad.

In 2018, Rodri made a big move to English Premier League club Manchester City, signing a five-year contract.
