Manchester United defender Diogo Dalot scored his first Premier League goal for the club in a 2-0 win over Nottingham Forest on Monday. The Portuguese right-back, who was making his 100th appearance for the Red Devils, doubled the lead in the 73rd minute with a stunning strike from outside the box that left the goalkeeper rooted to the spot.

Dalot, who joined United in 2018 from Porto, had previously scored only once for the club, in a FA Cup tie against Tranmere Rovers in 2020. He also spent a season on loan at AC Milan, where he netted twice in 33 games. The 23-year-old has been in fine form this season, both for club and country, scoring two goals in a single game for Portugal U21 against Czech Republic in September.

Dalot’s goal against Forest was his second of the season, after he opened the scoring in a 3-0 win over Sheriff Tiraspol in the Europa League in October. He celebrated his goal by checking his pulse, a gesture that he explained to United Review, the official matchday programme, last year. “It’s an original thing, it’s not something I’ve seen before and it’s a good one! [Laughs] I will definitely do it for my next goal!” he said.

Dalot has been praised by manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer for his versatility and work ethic, as he can play on both flanks and in different roles. He has also been a key part of United’s defensive improvement, as they have kept four clean sheets in their last five games in all competitions. Dalot will hope to continue his impressive run of form and help United climb up the table and challenge for trophies this season.
